Successful divorce consultation

Hi, I’m Lori Barkus, a family law attorney, and my Colorado and Florida-based law firm helps women have a successful divorce. I’m excited to be here talking to you today because I want to explain our process. It is different. I’ve come up with it after years of experience, and I can’t wait to share it with you. What we do is we do have a consultation process, but it starts with an independent review of your situation. I ask you for a lot of information. I dig in deep and read and reviewed it before meeting with you so that when we first meet, I’m not asking you what your name or spouse’s name is. I’m not wasting time with things like that. I know all that information. I also know a little bit about you and a little bit about what’s going on.

And the purpose of our consultation is to go into more detail, and the goal is for you to have a successful divorce, which is the first step. So what we do in our meeting is make sure that you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your case, whether you should file something, what type of case to file, and what the process will look like. Everybody has questions, and I can map that out for you. I can also give you resources to help you figure out things like, do I keep my home? Do I sell it? That’s a common one. It comes up a lot. I understand your monthly budget and financial questions. How do I figure out if my spouse is hiding money or not earning enough money? Things like that. We can talk about your children, how to parent better, some resources for how to deal with a problematic co-parent or difficult spouse, and the likelihood that this case will go to settlement or trial.

And I always tell you, what is your next step? When you work with me, you always know your next step. So please leave the consultation knowing this is the next step that you should take. And we also do a 15-minute follow-up about a week or so later to discuss any questions. It’s a lot of information. Sometimes things come up. And again, I want to make sure you understand the entire process. So we’re here to help anybody with a case in Colorado or Florida. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at barkuslaw.com.
