Our Philosophy
Calm Approach, Noticeable Results
At Sustainable Family Solutions, we’re aware that the common perception when it comes to divorce is that in order to successfully claim what they rightfully deserve, women need a frothing at the mouth pit bull attorney that does everything short of bite to win a fight. That idea saddens us, and we don’t believe that method is an effective way to navigate the difficult process of divorce.
Instead, we believe in the power of reason, preparation, and understanding. We know that matching the aggressive energy of an opposing party does not lead to the best outcomes. Instead, it often leads to unnecessary conflict, stress, and financial strain. We’re not here to escalate conflicts; we’re here to resolve them.
Our philosophy is rooted in partnership. We’re not just your legal representatives; we’re your allies, your advocates, and your guides. We’re beside you every step of the way, ensuring that you’re informed, prepared, and confident. We work diligently to understand your unique situation, your needs, and your goals. We then use this understanding to develop a strategy that is tailored to you.
One of our core ideas is something that might sound like an oxymoron at first– we want to hold your hand and lead you down the path to a “successful divorce.” You might wonder, how can a divorce be successful?
We believe that a successful divorce is one where you come out the other side feeling empowered and ready to move forward. To achieve this, we focus on keeping you level-headed and prepared. We help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and what a reasonable settlement looks like. We understand that this can be a time filled with heightened emotions, and we help you take a measured approach – shrewd instead of bull-headed, savvy instead of ferocious.
If you’re ready to redefine the narrative of divorce, to transform it from a battlefield into a bridge towards a brighter future, then Sustainable Family Solutions are the partners you’re looking for to help you navigate your way to a successful divorce.

Lori Barkus
Family Law Attorney, Mediator & Guardian Ad Litem
Lori Barkus is a cum laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Florida, Colorado, Georgia, the District of Columbia, and the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Appeals. Loris is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil and Family Law Mediator, as well as a member of numerous legal associations. Her legal journey began as a law clerk for Honorable Sam I. Silver and led her to multiple positions as a legal clerk and intern, respectively. Lori has primarily handled family law, commercial litigation, and divorce matters. Through her extensive training and experience, she has learned that above all, a divorce lawyer must hold one task as the most important: to encourage clients to see the most cost-effective solutions, thereby minimizing the trauma experienced between the divorcing parties and their children. Since 2005, Lori has concentrated almost exclusively in the areas of divorce, family law, and commercial litigation. In this time she has been a fierce advocate for family law reform and has provided advice on how to modify the current laws to make the divorce process more streamlined and the outcomes more certain. Through these efforts, she has met with numerous Florida representatives, political groups and individuals to discuss the current alimony and time sharing laws and help to promote change. Lori remains active in these efforts and continues to remain on the forefront of the family law reform movement in Florida. Lori’s passion and determination for helping families and their children is built on years of witnessing not only dysfunctional family dynamics and the negative impact they can have on the mental health of children, but conversely, the powerful empath that starting over can have on people’s lives. Divorce is never a good experience, but endings can be beginning, and Lori’s team at Sustainable Family Solutions is here to help you through that journey with empathy and understanding as well as the strength and determination necessary to bring a case to a close.

Mallory
CO Attorney
Mallory Kindsfather was born and raised in Colorado. She completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University and received a bachelor’s degree in English in 2010. She then took a few years off from school to work and found herself working as a paralegal. After a few years of working as a paralegal she decided she wanted to be in the big chair and made the decision to attend law school. She followed in her father’s footsteps and attended law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She graduated from law school in 2017 and was admitted to practice law in Colorado that same year. After practicing in a few areas and then going through a divorce of her own, Mallory was drawn to practice in family law and quickly found herself joining the team at Sustainable Family Solutions. She strives to bring compassion and understanding to her representation of her clients. When she is not working you can find Mallory in the garden, on a horse, or on the roller derby track!
