Grey Divorce: A Demographic Trend
Studies show that divorce rates for couples aged 50 and older have doubled since 1990, and more than doubled for married individuals 65 and older. This isn’t a case of second-marriages or even later-in-life marriages ending in separation. More than 55% of ‘grey divorces’ – generally used to describe adults aged 50 or older who are going through a separation – have been married for over 20 years. There are a few reasons that long-term couples may be facing divorce:- Finances – overspending or mismanagement of funds, or enough savings to squash the fear of ‘living on your own’
- Growing Apart – possibly made prevalent by children moving out
- Life Expectancy – The longer we live, the more we want to make a life worth living – some have stopped shying away from divorce in pursuit of what makes them truly happy

Helping Women See Themselves – insight from a Self-Worth coach and photographer
Karianne Munstedt runs a portrait photography studio out of Phoenix, Arizona. Her clients travel from all over the world to pose in front of her lens. “I help women see themselves,” she told us. “Through photography, and also as a self-love/self-worth coach.” When Karianne was twenty, she watched her parents go through a difficult divorce. Her mother struggled with relearning who she was as an independent woman. Karianne, herself, found herself divorced at the age of 30. “I had lost myself in my marriage, and I didn’t recognize the person I had become. I had to dig deep to really get to know who I was.” She found newfound confidence after being photographed that helped her take steps to live the extraordinary life she now leads. Now she is able to help other women going through similar life changes see themselves again. “We can do hard things,” she said, sharing her favorite quote from Glennon Doyle. “Whether that’s removing oneself from an unhealthy relationship or stepping in front of the camera to see ourselves once again.” Karianne recommends finding a strong support system, including hiring professionals who can guide and provide support through your very difficult and overwhelming time. Through her photography business, Karianne supports women, especially those who need confidence and a self-worth boost. If you’re in need of that boost, please reach out to Karianne at kariannemunstedt.com.

“Being photographed in a tender and loving way really helped me to SEE MYSELF again…to see the beautiful, feminine, amazing woman that I had forgotten was there.”
